Welcome David Brendgard to FLBC!

We are so excited and honored to have found an amazing lead brewer to add to the FLBC team. Welcome David and we can not wait to taste your first brew with us. Here is a bit about David.

David Brendgard is a true North Westerner. Raised in Montana and Washington, he moved to Oregon in 1989 and immediately recognized the emerging craft brewing industry in Portland. He was introduced to better beer through Bridgeport and Widmer Breweries. Deciding to pursue his education as a geologist he moved to Bend Oregon in 1996 and to put himself through college he landed a job at Deschutes Brewery stacking cases of beer on the bottle line. As time progressed he realized that brewing was becoming his interest of choice, and spent the next 17 years with Deschutes. David worked his way up through the company working in packaging, waste treatment, cellar, management and brewing. He was sponsored to attend the UC Davis professional Brewers Program in 2005 and went on to head up the sour beer and oak aged beer programs. He has won several awards for sour beer including The Dissident and Plumb Line. He has contributed to the development of Red Chair and Imperial Porter.

Recently married he felt it was time to return to his roots in Montana and craft brewing and accepted the Lead Brewer position at Flathead Lake Brewing Co. Wanting to be involved with small batch brewing and contributing to a growing brewery. He brings years of experience and a passion for great beer and hopes to promote successful growth while retaining craft brewing integrity. Expanding the sour beer program and creating innovative beer in the growing Montana craft beer scene will be an exciting and fulfilling position to be involved with.

In his spare time he climbs, big walls in Yosemite and Zion, mountaineers, fly fishes and hikes. He is also an avid amateur photographer and birder.
