December 4 | Science on Tap

Join us for Science on Tap, Thursday, December 4th at 6:30pm in the Cellar at the FLBC Pubhouse. Kick off the start of winter with US Geological Survey Research Scientist, Erich Peitzsch. Erich is a Research Physical Scientist with the U.S. Geological Survey Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in West Glacier. His research focuses on snow avalanches, snowpack dynamics, and long-term changes in snow and ice across the landscape. He started with the USGS in 2007 as the lead avalanche forecaster for the Going-to-the-Sun Road Avalanche Program in Glacier National Park. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. from Montana State University, and currently leads the USGS Interagency Avalanche Research Team.

Title: Snow and Ice in the Crown of the Continent

Summary: Erich will present an overview of snowpack and glacier changes across the region, highlighting research conducted by his team in Glacier National Park and the surrounding areas. His talk will cover topics such as the climate drivers of snow avalanches, historical and projected snowpack trends, and the current status of glaciers within the park

Tickets are $5 a person, and we recommend purchasing them in advance.

Please remember if you are grabbing dinner before the presentation to come in plenty early as we get a bit of a dinner rush. If you want to grab dinner to-go to enjoy in the cellar, our bartender in the cellar will be able to take your to-go order to be delivered to you down there.

Science on Tap is an informal community gathering to discuss science around the lake, region, world… and sometimes beyond. We invite local scientists and researchers in our community to discuss and present their work and results in ways that are easy to understand and light on data and graphs. This is a fun, family-friendly event in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Bring your curiosity and enjoy yourself!

Brought to you by the Flathead Lakers, Flathead Lake Biological Station, and the FLBC Pubhouse.
